The Norfolk Environmental Commission (NEC) is a non-profit organization and a branch of the City of Norfolk Department of Public Works.
Mission: To lead citizens toward environmental stewardship.
What NEC does:
Environmental Education: Youth groups, Scout troops, Schools, Outreach and On-site programs, Earth Day
Litter Prevention: Neighborhood & City-wide cleanups, Adopt - A - Spot, Great American Clean Up, Clean the Bay Day
Waste Reduction: Environmental Awards for Recycling in Norfolk's Neighborhoods (EARNN), guidance and consultation with businesses and local organizations to start recycling programs, curbside and drop-off recycling coordination
Beautification and Community Improvement: Wetlands restoration, neighborhood beautification, leadership development programs
